DESCRIPTION:Self-Care for Bleeding Disorder Caregivers – Put Your Oxygen Mask on First\nCaring for a child or partner can be exhausting. Bleeding disorders affect everyone in the family and you can experience a range of emotions from anger and anxiety to pride and satisfaction. This workshop is designed to help caregivers identify and accept the feelings encountered while caring for a loved one with a bleeding disorder as well as learn how to manage the tasks and feelings associated with being a caregiver with greater ease. \nYou will gain a clearer sense of priorities in caring for a loved one as well as explore the power of delegation and becoming comfortable using it. This workshop focuses on increasing your ability to care for yourself and how to care for your own body and spirit. You will learn to create balance so when you are in the role of caregiver you are operating at maximum efficiency! \nTake a break this summer and join your fellow female caregivers for this wonderful program! DESCRIPTION:Erie Program\nOur annual program in Erie\, will be held during the summer this year. You will have a choice of which educational session to attend: Cracking the Code or Power of Empowerment. \nCracking the Code: Learn about DNA and how it makes you unique\, how it is responsible for how your body functions\, and how it can help scientists find treatments for conditions such as hemophilia. The goal of this program is to help you understand some of the basics so you can have further discussions with your health care provider\, parents\, and teachers. \nPower of Empowerment: Learn about embracing your unique attributes\, strengths\, and skills; advocating for yourself; learning from others in the bleeding disorders community; and creating a support system through empowering partnerships. \nSupervision will be provided for children ages 4-12\, during the educational program. SUMMARY:Camp Hot-to-Clot
DESCRIPTION:WPCNHF is proud to help support Camp Hot-to-Clot\, which is organized by the Hemophilia Center of Western PA. \nCamp Hot-to-Clot is offered for children with bleeding disorders and their siblings\, ages 7 to 17. Fun activities such as rock wall climbing\, fishing\, canoeing\, archery\, arts and crafts\, swimming\, and field games that are organized in a safe\, nurturing environment that gives the campers a chance to broaden their experiences. We also offer a Leader In Training program for boys and girls ages 15-17\, who show leadership qualities and interest in the program. \nCamp Hot to Clot 2015 will be held June 7th-13th.  Please direct any questions to Michelle Alabek at 412-209-7292. \nCamp History\nCamp Hot-to-Clot was founded In February 2001\, by Don “Pa” Lucas and Jackie “Mama” Lucas and the dedicated staff of HAVEN (Hemophilia and Von Willebrand Education Network). The first week of Camp Hot-to-Clot took place in August of 2001. Don Paul’s sense of adventure and humor still shines in the idea and name of this wonderful camp! \nCamp Hot-to-Clot is here to serve the children and adolescents affected by bleeding disorders and their siblings in Western PA. Since 2001\, our camper population has grown from 12 children to 96 children and adolescents in 2012. We are pleased with our growth and hope to continue to grow and thrive each year. \nCampers\, counselors and volunteers come from all over Pennsylvania\, Western New York\, and Eastern Ohio to enjoy the outdoors and to grow together as a family in the bleeding disorders community. Our camp site has moved from the Woodlands in Wexford PA\, to the shores of Lake Erie\, now at Camp Kon-O-Kwee in Fombell\, PA. \n \nCamp Facility\nThe Camp Hot-to-Clot week long session is held annually in August at the YMCA Camp Kon-O-Kwee near Zelienople\, PA. The camp has an outdoor swimming pool\, a water park feature (Splash Pad)\, climbing barn and outdoor climbing facility\, evening camp fires\, archery range\, disc golf\, gaga pit and indoor gaga\, fishing pond\, a creek for canoeing\, arts and crafts center\, showers and bathroom facilities\, and a large lodge and dining hall. Camp Kon-O-Kwee has some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. \nIn addition\, Camp Hot-to-Clot at Camp Kon-O-Kwee is staffed with around-the-clock nursing staff\, a physical therapist and a social worker from the Hemophilia Center of Western PA. The Camp Hot-to-Clot staff works closely with the Hemophilia Center of Western PA\, the Western PA Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation\, and Camp Kon-O-Kwee to bring a camp session that is SAFE\, FUN and EDUCATIONAL for our campers. \nCamp Kon-O-Kwee is located on 500 acres of fields and woodlands along the Connequenessing Creek and is owned and operated by YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh since 1926 and is accredited by the American Camp Association. DESCRIPTION:Erie Program\nOur annual program in Erie\, will be held during the summer this year. You will have a choice of which educational session to attend: Cracking the Code or Power of Empowerment. \nCracking the Code: Learn about DNA and how it makes you unique\, how it is responsible for how your body functions\, and how it can help scientists find treatments for conditions such as hemophilia. The goal of this program is to help you understand some of the basics so you can have further discussions with your health care provider\, parents\, and teachers. \nPower of Empowerment: Learn about embracing your unique attributes\, strengths\, and skills; advocating for yourself; learning from others in the bleeding disorders community; and creating a support system through empowering partnerships. \nSupervision will be provided for children ages 4-12\, during the educational program.
