Education Weekend provided our family with the opportunity to educate ourselves about his bleeding disorder. We were able to talk with doctors\, nurses and other families who have children living with the same condition and that helped us tremendously. One of the most satisfying things that came out of this weekend for us was that Zhi had a better understanding of his bleeding disorder and was no longer scared about his diagnosis. I was diagnosed with von Willebrand disease when I was a small child. Currently\, I am the only one in my family to be diagnosed with a bleeding/clotting disorder. At Education Weekend\, I enjoy all the opportunities to connect with others in the community. My favorite activity last year was axe throwing! This year\, I am looking forward to all the learning options there will be. The presentations are always informative and I always leave with more knowledge than I arrived with. Also\, the food is always good!” \nArthur\nRegistration Information:\n\nTo request a registration form\, send an email to rsvp@wpbdf.org or call 724-741-6160. Bleeding disorders are a chronic condition and whether the diagnosis is mild or taking a medication that has kiddos present as milder\, it’s important for them to understand and be reminded why it’s important to be mindful of their own bleeding disorder or siblings bleeding disorder as well as finding empowerment in their awareness. Kathaleen Schnur\, LCSW\, from the Hemophilia Center of Western PA\, will guide a discussion with the children (ages 7-12) on respecting bleeding disorders. \nMuseum Admission: We will meet in one of the party rooms in the Children’s Museum; however\, admission to both the Children’s Museum and Museum Lab is included\, and you are welcome to spend the remainder of the day enjoying the museums. SUMMARY:World Hemophilia Day
DESCRIPTION:The Art of Community\nShining Bright for Hemophilia\nPlease join us as we raise awareness for hemophilia and honor progress in our community. \nIn celebration of the bright future ahead\, we will light the Carnegie Science Center and host a painting activity at which each family will have the chance to create their own work of art.  We chose the canvas design to serve as a beacon of inspiration\, and hope it will be a constant reminder of all that we can accomplish together. \nThis event is sponsored by Biogen Idec.  Please RSVP to WPCNHF by calling the office at 724-741-6160 or e-mailing us at rsvp@wpcnhf.org.
